Do you need job interview advice? Interviews can be very nerve racking and difficult to go through with ease. Most people look for advice and ask around to see how they should prepare for an interview. There are many questions people ask when going to a job interview.
What Should I Wear?
What you wear should be determined first by one factor. That factor is whether you are male or female. This plays a large role in what you should wear to a job interview.
If you’re female here is what I would recommend wearing:
• A suit (black, or dark gray)
• Blouse that is coordinated
• Shoes (not too flashy)
• Jewelry (limited amount of jewelry)
• Professionally cut hair style
• Pantyhose
• Neat, manicured nails (not painted)
• Light make-up
• Perfume (not overpowering)
If you are a man then you should wear:
• Suit (black, gray, or navy)
• Belt
• Tie
• Dark socks
• Classy dressy shoes
• An expensive watch (if you have one)
• Neat professionally cut hairstyle
• Neatly trimmed nails
• Light cologne
How Should I Act?
All good job interview advice will tell you that communication is mostly done through body language. What you say is a very small part of the interview (not to say its negligible, because it is still obviously a substantial part). But nonetheless, nonverbal communication can be more important than verbal communication.
The first part of nonverbal communication is pretty simple. You shouldn’t show up to the interview chewing gum, or smelling of cigarette smoke. This will make your first impression all the worse. Make sure you are dressed nice, like I described in the bullet points above. And make sure you aren’t listening to an iPod. The person doing the interview usually won’t like it too much if they get your attention, and your first motion you make is to take your headphones out, not shake their hand.
What Should I Bring To The Interview?
• Folder with all your files in it, including your resume
• Notepad (you usually end up writing things down)
• A mint (not gum, and dispose of the mint before you enter the building)
Now you should be dressed professionally, have good breath, be prepared, and be waiting for your interview to start. So what other job interview advice is there?
Well most of the time, you will enter the lobby, and speak with the receptionist, and tell her what you are there for. You should obviously have a friendly attitude, and be respectful. If you must wait, do so quietly and courteously. When you are greeted by the interviewer, you should have a firm (not a wet fish, or death grip) handshake.
During The Interview
Once you are in the hot seat for the interview, there are a few habits you should get into. You should be smiling and acknowledging the interviewer at the appropriate times. Don’t get crazy with this. You should keep an even tone in your voice, and not use crazy pitch changes. You might be thinking you never have crazy pitch changes in your voice, but you do. You shouldn’t be completely monotone, but don’t sound ridiculous either. Here’s some phenomenal job interview advice…don’t slouch. But be relaxed, and lean forward towards the interview so you seem interested, which I hope you are. This means you shouldn’t be leaning back. Most of all make sure you are listening attentively, and remembering what they say. If you think you might forget something, write it down. That is why you brought a notepad and pen.
When you are speaking make sure you enunciate your words properly. Speak clearly.
