Writing a Speech: How to Write a Speech

Since your speech is going to be heard by tons of people and you are personally delivering it, you probably want to it to be really good. The better you think your speech is, the more confident you will be when giving it. A good speech is organized and contains, a good introduction and thesis, a body, and a grand-slam conclusion. Learning how to write a speech is extremely easy with a few tips.

The first thing you are going to want to do when learning how to write a speech is to get your thoughts down on paper. Get your main idea down first. Then put down the goal of your speech. Is informative? Persuasive? The goal is what you want people to learn from what you are saying. Make this pretty simple and get three or four really good points down. People usually only remember one or two things about the speech, so try not to confuse them with an extremely long, boring speech.

Now onto writing a speech. Let’s start with the introduction of the presentation. An introduction is basically a summary of what you are going to be saying in detail a little later on. It’s also your chance to pull the listener into your speech. Try making your audience laugh, or pull them in with a shocking statistic. Try not to make your introduction too long either, people may get bored and stop listening. Do not start off your speech with “This speech is about” Here an example of an introduction of a speech I wrote in a long time ago.

“About 65 percent of Americans do not live a healthy lifestyle. That is close to about 200 million people. The population of the United States is a little over 300 million. Basic math tells us that most of America is unhealthy. Why are people unhealthy? Almost everyone knows about diet and exercise, but yet the majority of the population is not healthy. We have a wealth of supplies that can keep us healthy. There are many reasons why people aren’t healthy. They don’t eat properly, exercise properly, or they are just ignorant as to how to stay healthy. Being healthy is better option than being unhealthy.”

Depending on what you are writing a speech on, and how long it has to be, your body should include a couple of main points. Not too many though because you don’t want to flood your audience with information because they will forget it all. Have some sub points to back your main points up, and make sure your body is organized and makes sense. Here is the body of the speech from earlier.

There are many types of health. The three main types of health are emotional health, physical health and mental health. There are benefits to all three of these types of health. When you are not a healthy person you do not receive these benefits.

“Learning to how to properly eat healthy is a key to being a healthy person. Let’s start off with what is eating healthy? Eating healthy is having a well balanced diet by meeting your nutritional needs. Eating healthy has so many benefits over a person who eats improperly. Besides maintaining a healthy weight, one benefits of eating healthy is having enough energy to last you throughout the day. This is a great benefit because you can go through your day without feeling tired. This will help you with school or work because it helps you stay focused. Another benefit is getting the proper amount of vitamins. Vitamins help various parts of your body develop and grow. Other benefits to eating healthy are staying strong, growing, and preventing unhealthy eating habits. These benefits obviously do not come with eating poorly.

Exercising properly is another reason people are not healthy. When you learn how to exercise the right way, you are already making yourself healthier. Like eating healthy, exercising properly also has its benefits. Exercising, like weight loss, increases energy level. One this exercising regularly does is help you sleep better. This can prevent you from waking up at random times during the night and also helps you fall asleep faster at night. Exercising also helps improve your mood and make you feel better about yourself. Another benefit of exercising is it helps you fight off diseases.

Being healthy is more than just eating better and exercising properly. It is also about being healthy emotionally. People who are emotionally healthy are in control of their emotions and also their behavior. Being healthy emotionally has its benefits as physical health has its benefits. Being emotionally healthy helps you increase self confidence and self esteem. People who are emotionally healthy are proven to have more fun in life. They also have a better ability to deal with stress and bounce back from bad situations. They learn things more quickly and can adapt to change better. These are even more benefits that being healthy has over not being healthy.”

The conclusion is the part I have the most trouble with for some reason. I’m not exactly sure why either. The conclusion basically sums up all the key points you just said and reminds people what you were saying, in case they missed some of it. Here is the conclusion to the speech.

“Being healthy has its benefits over not being healthy. The way to receive these benefits is to do what people who are healthy do. They eat properly, exercise properly, and take care of their bodies. People who are not healthy do not receive these great benefits. It is quite obvious that you should be healthy and take up healthy habits.”
